From Traffic to Value: Rethinking iGaming Affiliate Growth with Affnook

Discussing igaming affiliates

The iGaming affiliate industry is undergoing transformation. For decades, the standard for progress has been traffic, clicks, registrations, and first-time deposits. Competition and regulation made it impossible for the operators and affiliates to satisfy themselves with simple acquisition of customers.

Affiliates are now seeking bigger questions: Are players valuable enough? Where do they drop off? How can partnerships be more transparent? How can businesses make better decisions based on what they have achieved?

Those were the issues discussed at Affnook’s webinar “From Traffic to Value: Building a Smarter, More Transparent iGaming Affiliate Ecosystem” that took place on the 26th of August.

The webinar was moderated by Jeremy Castillo, Head of Sales, Affnook, and was attended by industry leaders Danielle Medgett (B2B Partnership Manager, iConvert), Brendon Spiteri (Head of Commercial. Routy), and Joe Hatch (VP of Product, StatsDrone).

The discussion was mainly around the iGaming affiliate ecosystem and to start focusing on quality, transparency, and long-term value. Instead of Volume

The Shift from Traffic to Player Value

During the webinar, one of the most talked-about themes was the growing need of looking beyond the first conversion.

Joe Hatch explained how businesses are more aware of the data available through the player journey. Companies no longer think of the conversion as the end of the funnel.

This means understanding the complete path, from acquisition until the player starts creating value while also ensuring correct attribution.

For affiliates and operators, this move means everything since a traffic source that provides lots of FTDs might not be that effective if those players go inactive and stop providing income.

Hence, the angle has changed from “How many players have we attracted?” to “What value do those players provide?”

Quality Traffic Is Becoming More Important

Brendon Spiteri presented us with another fundamental viewpoint: the altering status of publishers and sources of traffic.

These days, entering the iGaming affiliate industry may imply serious outlay. Building the SEO asset, launching the campaign, and competing with the already established publishers may not be easy for newcomers.

Because of this, traffic sources become more about concentration with major media outlets gaining more and more power.

At the same time, bigger publishers are becoming more and more data-driven. They don’t just push the volumes of traffic anymore and pay attention to the CPA figures, but rather observe how much revenue every FTD brings in.

This leads to the need for the operators and the affiliates to gain a better understanding of performance.

Regulation Is Changing the Conversation

Regulation is also playing a major role in how iGaming businesses approach affiliate marketing.

Danielle Medgett explained that operators are increasingly focused on what happens between the initial click and the player’s deposit.

In the past, the focus could often be on generating volume. Today, operators need to understand where players drop off and why. This helps them identify whether their marketing spend is actually delivering the expected value.

The changes in regulation across different markets are making this even more important. Operators need better visibility into the customer journey and stronger control over their acquisition channels.

This is not only about compliance. Better visibility can also help businesses make smarter marketing decisions.

Launching an iGaming Business Is Only the Beginning

Jeremy Castillo shared another challenge he is seeing across the industry: many new operators understand how to build or launch an iGaming website, but are less prepared for what comes next.

Setting up a platform may be relatively straightforward. The bigger challenge starts after launch.

How do you acquire players? Which channels should you use? How do you identify quality traffic? How do you compete with established operators? And how do you build partnerships that can deliver sustainable results?

Having the right technology is an important foundation, but it needs to work together with marketing, partnerships, data, and player acquisition strategies.

The real work begins when the platform goes live.

Building a More Transparent Affiliate Ecosystem

Throughout the discussion, it became clear that one thing would remain crucial in determining the future of iGaming affiliate marketing, namely:

The operators have to know how valuable and good the traffic they get is. The affiliates must be provided with relevant performance data allowing them to create successful marketing strategies.

In this respect, both parties have to better understand what occurs along the customer journey.

When both sides are provided with useful information, the effectiveness and sustainability of partnerships can increase.

At this point in time, technology is capable of making a difference. It can help operators and affiliates get away from isolated figures and create a more accurate picture of efficiency thanks to improved tracking, attribution, reporting, and analytics.

From Volume to Long-Term Value

The iGaming affiliate industry is entering a stage where simply generating traffic is no longer enough.

Quality matters. Data matters. Transparency matters. And most importantly, long-term player value matters.

The discussion during Affnook’s webinar showed that operators, affiliates, and technology providers are all adapting to this new reality. The businesses that can understand their data, measure the full player journey, and build transparent partnerships will be better positioned to grow in an increasingly competitive market.

At Affnook, we believe that the key to effective affiliate growth is visibility. By bringing together tracking, data, and partner performance, companies can stop thinking solely about the number of conversions and start comprehending their true value.

There’s more to the future of affiliate marketing in iGaming than generating traffic. It’s about ensuring that every partner, every player, and every marketing action counts. They may not deliver volume, but every partnership must be critical for the organization.
